Professor Kel Fidler CEng HonFIET FREng

Professor Kel Fidler has an engineering academic background.  He was Head of Engineering Departments at Essex University, The Open University, and The University of York.  He has extensive experience of working with industry in the area of Electronics.  At York he also served as Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Deputy Vice-Chancellor.  His last post before retirement was as Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive of Northumbria University.

In a parallel career, Kel has had substantial engagement with the Engineering Profession.  Amongst his many activities, he has served as Chair of the IEE Accreditation Committee, the Degree Accreditation Committee for Chartered Engineers, and IEE Professional Group E10.  He Chaired the Engineering Council for two terms and led UK-SPEC development.  He chaired the QAA Engineering Benchmark review group. He was a member of the RAEng Standing Committee for Education and Training.

Currently he is an advisor to NMiTE in the development of a new engineering University in Herefordshire, and also to the UCL Centre for Engineering Education.  He is a member of the IET Fellow’s Standing Panel, and the IET Education and Skills Policy Panel.

Kel is a Fellow of the RAEng, Honorary Fellow of the IET, and holds honorary degrees from Northumbria, Huddersfield and York universities.
