Glossary

There are many terms in currency around the education world which display ambiguity of meaning. This is an attempt to define a vocabulary which clarifies at least what is meant when we use a word or phrase of jargon in the context of engineering education.  The following list is alphabetical: no further significance is intended by the order of terms.

judgement

Students will need to show judgement whenever they are tackling an open problem (one without a single correct answer) or an ethical issue.

just in time (JIT)

JIT is a phase widely used in manufacturing but in the educational context it refers to students acquiring knowledge or understanding at the time when the need for it becomes apparent to them – for instance during PBL (Problem Based Learning).
