UK and Ireland 7th Engineering Education Research Network Annual Symposium

Date(s) - 16/12/2019 - 17/12/2019
All Day

The UK & Ireland EERN are pleased to announce that our 7th Annual Symposium will be hosted by WMG & the School of Engineering, University of Warwick in December this year.

Excellence in Engineering Education for the 21st Century: The Role of Engineering Education Research

Building on the success of our previous annual symposium and colloquium the UK & Ireland EERN invites colleagues to submit extended abstracts for presentation at the 2019 Annual Symposium.

With a growing membership of Engineering Education Researchers and Educators, this year’s event promises to be better than ever.

Call for Short Papers

This year we are inviting colleagues to submit short papers of between 1,500 and 2,500 words. All papers will be independently and anonymously reviewed by two colleagues. Unlike previous years we will be publishing the Conference Findings at the event itself, hence all accepted papers will be included in the findings. As before the findings will be allocated an ISBN and will be published on our website as well as disseminated on institutional databases. The document will also be allocated a ‘Creative Commons’ licence and be freely available to all. The template for papers is attached.

Four different classifications of papers may be submitted:

  1. Research Papers
  2. Practice Papers
  3. Workshop Outlines
  4. Poster Presentations

Conceptual or theoretical papers may also be accepted under the heading ‘ENGINEERING EDUCATION DISCUSSION’. Colleagues submit such a paper may be asked to facilitate a discussion or debate during the conference and should contact Jane Andrews in advance of submission for a discussion regarding the topic.

Conference Themes

  1. Looking to the future:
  • STEM Education in Schools
  • Engineering Education & Society: Educating Engineers for an uncertain future

  1. Globalisation, Inclusion and Diversity
  • Inclusion & Diversity in Engineering Education

  1. Working with Industry
  • Work-Based and Active Learning

  1. Engineering Education Research in Action
  • From School to PhD: The promotion of evidence based learning and teaching in Engineering Education
  • The Reflective Practitioner in Engineering Education
